Student Ambassador Program

2009 Student Ambassadors

  • Sugam Bhatnagar, MPH student
  • Dustin Duncan, Doctoral student
  • Randy Miles, MPH student
  • Toyin Okanlawon, MPH student

Student ambassadors assist and support staff in addressing the needs of students of color. They provide peer advising, referrals to other school resources as appropriate, serve as liaisons to student organizations, and assist in carrying out various OD projects.

Participants provide an invaluable link to the student body as representatives of the OD.  They connect with students as students, and are intimately aware of current issues and concerns impacting students of color at HSPH.  Participants are asked to articulate and share their values and beliefs in a way that is supportive of the Office of Diversity.  Establishing meaningful supportive relationships with students, faculty and staff, student ambassadors are creating a sense of "belonging" and developing a sense of "connectedness" at HSPH.

Role of Student Ambassador:

  • Articulate the services of the Office of Diversity to students by emails, newsletters, and events;
  • Assist the OD on projects pertaining to ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and other specific projects;
  • Serve as OD liaisons to various ethnic student organizations and share information about OD events and services;
  • Consult with staff on student concerns and needs;
  • Help promote a greater sense of community by facilitating collaboration with and between many student organizations.
